Thanks for comment Christos. I don’t disagree that it’s good to practice discipline and develop willpower. And as you said, it’s often in times of intense concentration that we need to rely on those reserves.
I meant it from a sustainability standpoint. As the majority of dieters can attest, when we consistently put ourselves in situations that require willpower for success, we will inevitably fall short. At some point, the pull outweighs our resistance and we fall back into bad habits.
I really believe that for us to sustain any habit, it needs to have a positive consequence or alternative to reinforce our behavior and encourage us to repeat it next time.
