Hi Simon, good question.

For me, at work I try to focus on making micro improvements every day instead of aiming towards some future accomplishment. I try to choose a handful of skills that I want to improve within (leadership, communication, influence, technical depth, strategic vision and execution, etc.) and design my responsibilities to focus on these areas. I don’t necessarily know where this will take me a year from now, but I prefer to work on them daily as opposed to have a long-term go/no-go goal.

Similarly, at home I try to be the best father and husband that I can be on a daily basis. This is less defined, but if I can look back at each day and think I was a great father and husband that day, I’m usually happy with myself.

Thanks for reading and for the comment!
