Great article Noah. Basecamp’s an inspiration to the rest of us who are trying to make our own workplace culture a little more open. A little less stifling. A little more focused on growth and development.
It’s a great perspective that we often hire smart, talented people who are aligned with the company’s mission. Then we show them that we don’t trust them by micro-managing every minor decision. And we wonder why it’s difficult to retain top talent.
If you’re at all interested in seeing how a less advanced company is trying to push forward in this area, I tried to capture some of it with the posts, People Don’t Want to be Managed and Should We Teach Creativity or Just Stop Stifling It? (I realize this is self-serving, but I’m doing it anyway)
Thanks again for the article and perspectives.
